INTRODUCTION:

Cairn Daimh (Hill of the Stags) at 1866ft (570m) is most often ascended in the course of following the Tomintoul Spur of the Speyside Way, between Glenlivet and Tomintoul. However, the ascent of this hill makes a good circular walk from Tomnavoulin on one of the Glenlivet Estate waymarked trails (No. 5) - See map.

Starting point - Clash Wood car park. The route follows a steady ascent along farm, forest and hill tracks to the outstanding viewpoint of Cairn Daimh (pronounced Cairn Dye) 570m above sea level. Return across moorland. Exposed most of the way especially at the top. Can be extended to make a much longer walk by linking up with Walk 6 or by following the Speyside Way to Blairfindy, returning along the Gallowhill road.

Glenlivet Estate Ranger Service

The Glenlivet Estate has a ranger service based at the Estate Office and Information Centre at the south end of Tomintoul. The Centre, houses displays about the countryside of Glenlivet and how it is managed, and is open (free) throughout the year. (The office is not continually manned and staff may be absent at any time.)
